BACKWOODS GROUPS

Our emphasis is on participation, not sight-seeing – much of the course is accompanied by hands-on practical experience.  Come and learn what food delights you may gather for yourself.

We cater for corporate and team-building events, private groups, family days and offer day classes on specific topics to individuals or groups.

Our introductory and advanced courses in bushcraft, survival and wilderness living skills are run in Scotland. Our students come from all over the world and we welcome all age groups. We are easily reached by road, rail or air.
Our Veidemann man of the wilderness,  is an advanced course, run in the Telemark region of Norway.

Courses are educational but also good fun and will give you a great sense of achievement, especially when you light your first fire by friction! Our emphasis is on participation, not sight-seeing – much of the course is accompanied by hands-on practical experience, so please come willing to join in!

All courses are run from an expedition style camp, with all food being provided by us or gathered by participants.  All of our courses involve some degree of exertion, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.  Backwoods Survival School operates on a full-time basis and we hold full Public Liability Insurance, with a qualified wilderness first-aider present at every course.

“I am a firm believer in ‘practice what you teach’.
It’s easy to talk about wilderness living, but not so simple
when faced with the hardships and realities of it all”.
